Every June the advertising world descends on Cannes, and the Hôtel Martinez is its front door. Disney wanted something people would cross the street to photograph. So we built Mickey. Sixteen feet of him in mirror metallic, seated above the entrance like a sculpture that had always been there, reflecting the Riviera light.
Recreating the most recognizable character on earth, for the company that owns him, leaves no room for interpretation. Mirror material forgives nothing, and neither does an install above a hotel entrance, so we checked the build twice a day for the full week. After Cannes, Mickey toured Disney's European events. A year later, Disney came back. Two golden Mickeys for their Advertising Upfront in New York. The strongest review a client can give is a second call. Disney's came with gold.
